nature deficit disorder

an immersive installation at the BMA through may 31, 2026

nature deficit disorder at the baltimore museum of art
last friday morning i decided i'd have a slow start to my day. i went for a long walk in my typical spot, where i was able to see some herons and woodpeckers, and hear the sweet calls of several warblers that i could never spot! since i'm in my nature-girl era, i decided to checkout nature deficit disorder, a current installation inside the spring house at the baltimore musuem of art. the artist invites you to lock up your phone and enter into an immersive nighttime forest. as someone with wavering feelings of disdain and joy toward my phone i was more than willing to give it a shot. the installation was fun it starts with a sip of mountain dew from a specimen container, and the offer of barbecued crickets (which i declined), there were lots of evergreen trees and dried leaves on the ground. a place to sit by a fake campfire, and they provide a lantern to guide you through the exhibit. my only complaint: they came to retrieve me after my five minutes was up. i honestly could have sat in there much longer. they did give me a button though that says "i survived 5 minutes without my phone!" i'll display it proudly on one of my tote bags. :D
